The science of seasonal depression

When did mornings stop feeling like beginnings and start feeling heavy? The sun fills the room, but it doesn’t reach your mind. You make coffee, scroll for a laugh, play TV Girl just to feel something, but everything feels kind of grey. Not sad exactly, just flat.

That is the thing about seasonal depression. It drifts in silently like your energy left the chat. Your brain’s rhythm gets confused when sunlight fades. Melatonin stays too long. Serotonin slows down. Suddenly, even the things that used to feel warm, music, people, your own thoughts, start glitching.

Science says your brain needs light like a plant needs sun. And yeah  maybe that is why stepping outside at 3pm hits different! right? It is not magic , it's just your body trying to cope.

But it is not all dark. You still catch small moments, a text from your loved ones , a random song that fits perfectly, a quiet walk under trees  that feels heavier but aesthetically pleasing. Those tiny things remind you your brain is still trying. Those tine acts whisper that you're still alive inside.

Seasonal depression is not drama. It is your body saying, hey, I need a little light. And maybe healing is just paying attention to yourself even when the sun doesn’t show up.
